There are so many ways to get involved as a volunteer at the Rainbow Rose Center! Each volunteer adds value to our organization, and we greatly cherish each individual that dedicates time to help our cause.
-
Become a Resource Specialist
As a Resource Specialist you will connect directly with people who come to the Rainbow Rose Center looking for assistance. Providing information on affirming resources is only part of the job, despite the title. Lending a listening ear or providing non-medical advice on how to handle situations also are part of this position.
-
Join a Committee
As a member of a committee you will directly influence the direction of the organization. Each committee has a chair from the board that helps guide committee members.
-
Moderate a Support Group
Our volunteers moderate our programs, such as the monthly peer-based support group meetings.
-
Help with Events
Whether one of our annual events or a responsive action undertaking, events take a lot of energy to plan, organize, and run. We need help with our events, so be you a seasoned event planning professional or a complete newcomer looking to learn, we’d love to have you involved!
-
Other Volunteer Opportunities
- Engaging in discussions and advocacy with local organizations and leaders
- Tracking, supporting, and suggesting legislation
- Writing articles, editorials, and press releases for Newspapers
- Many more!
All of our volunteers are asked to provide copies of two clearances - a (FBI) Criminal History Background Check and a Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check. These are both free if you indicate when you apply that they are for Volunteer purposes.
We also ask that you also get fingerprinted for a Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, depending on volunteer role.
Rainbow Rose Center functions through a series of active Committees. Each of these committees ensure that the Rainbow Rose Center can best serve the LGBTQIA+ community of York and Adams counties, and each is absolutely essential to our mission. We understand that not everyone will want to join a committee, however, every volunteer will fall under the category of one or more committees. Rainbow Rose Center Committees include:
-
Community Engagement Committee
Works to build direct connections between the Rainbow Rose Center and the LGBTQIA+ and wider community by participating in and tabling at community events and activities, engaging with the local school GSAs (Gay Straight Alliances or Gender/Sexual Orientation Alliances), etc.
-
Education Committee
Responsible for communicating with the Gender and Sexuality Alliances (GSAs) throughout York County, supporting educational efforts of the Rainbow Rose Center, and helping organize the York County GSA Summit.
-
Events Committee
Organizes and hosts the Rainbow Rose Center events, including the York County Pride, Coming Out Day Celebration, and Transgender Day of Remembrance Vigil along with other similar events.
-

-
Marketing & Communications Committee
Responsible for all marketing and publicity for the Rainbow Rose Center and coordinates marketing activities, press releases, social media, and website maintenance.
-
Programs Committee
Develops and moderates support programs that promote the health and wellbeing of the LGBTQIA+ community that the Rainbow Rose Center serves.
