Annual Juneteenth Block Party

Thursday, June 19, 2025
6:00 pm8:00 pm
408 W. Market St
York, PA 17401
US

Union Evangelical Lutheran Church strives to celebrate on the actual day of Juneteenth, so once again they will gather on Thursday, June 19, with set-up beginning at 5:00 p.m. and the event running from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. As in previous years, S. Penn Street between W. Market Street and Mason Avenue will be closed for the celebration.

Union Evangelical Lutheran Church will be providing free food, drinks, kids' activities, and entertainment.

Juneteenth marks the day—June 19, 1865—when the last enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas, finally learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. It is a day of celebration, remembrance, and commitment:

• Celebrating freedom and the enduring strength, creativity, and contributions of Black communities.
• Remembering injustice and the long road from slavery to freedom.
• Renewing our shared responsibility to work for racial justice, equity, and liberation for all.

As we celebrate Juneteenth, we also celebrate the people and the history of York.

Our hope is that this block party will be a space of joy, solidarity, and healing, where we continue the work of building a just and inclusive community.

We hope to see you on June 19!
