We’re pleased to share information about an important new mental health resource now available in our community!
The WellSpan Behavioral Health Walk-In Crisis Center at Loretta Claiborne, a service of WellSpan York Hospital, offers immediate, in-person support for individuals experiencing acute emotional, mental, or behavioral distress who do not require emergency medical care.
This center is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, serves all ages, and does not require an appointment.
Services Available
The Walk-In Crisis Center provides:
- Walk-in access and first responder drop-off.
- Immediate crisis assessments and stabilization.
- Short-term treatment, up to 23 hours.
- Connection to ongoing behavioral health and community services.
- Coordination with mobile crisis teams and the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
- Additional services, pending DOH and DHS approvals.
Why This Matters
Many people experiencing a mental health crisis have historically had limited options beyond emergency departments or law enforcement involvement. This center helps strengthen the local crisis response system by offering:
- Faster access to mental health support
- Reduced strain on emergency departments
- Fewer unnecessary hospitalizations
- Less law enforcement involvement when not needed
- Stronger pathways to follow-up care and long-term support
Built Through Community Partnership
This new resource was made possible through collaboration between WellSpan Health, behavioral health partners York/Adams HealthChoices and Community Care Behavioral Health, along with York and Adams County commissioners and local officials.
